FIT Design Entrepreneurs
In-kind services to USA, Canada, and International fashion designers to develop their businesses through a program of weekend learning sessions based out of New York City. Eligible design categories may include menswear, women's wear, children's wear, jewelry, and accessories.
This free “mini-MBA” program provides selected designers with the business acumen, resources, and community to grow their companies.
Each year, 25 designers accepted into the program are immersed in weekend learning intensives focused on marketing, financials, and operations taught by FIT instructors and industry experts. Each designer is also paired with a dedicated mentor to help them complete their business plan. All participants have access to FIT classes, resources, industry contacts, and events. The program culminates with a pitch event at which 12 designers compete for a cash prize to be used to execute their business plan.
Based on program criteria, an ideal candidate runs an established, fashion design business that has achieved traction in the industry as demonstrated through press coverage and sales, and is committed to learning the business skills needed to run a fashion label.
The program sessions are designed to appeal to a range of experience levels. The content will provide a strong foundation for designers less familiar with the day-to-day aspects of running their own businesses but will also be rigorous enough to appeal to those with more business experience.
Participants are expected to devote as much time as needed to complete weekly assignments, refining business plans and developing presentations. It is anticipated that between the weekend intensives, participants will be spending an average of five hours on program-related work.
