Education and nutrition for poor Mexican students

THE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES THAT ARE PROVIDED BY THE BOOKSTORE CONSIST OF THOSE THAT ARE EDUCATIONAL IN NATURE, INDUCE AND PROMOTE SCHOOL SPIRIT, OR ARE OTHERWISE PROVIDED FOR THE CONVENIENCE OF THE STUDENTS AND FACULTY OF PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY. THE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES THAT HAVE BEEN PROVIDED BY THE BOOKSTORE IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE AND RELATIVE SCOPE FALL INTO THE FOLLOWING GENERAL CATEGORIES: TEXTBOOKS AND COURSE RELATED MATERIALS, EDUCATION SUPPLIES, GENERAL BOOKS, INSIGNIA SPORTSWEAR, SOUVENIRS AND GIFTS, FOOD, SUNDRIES, STUDENT ORIENTED ELECTRONICS, ART SUPPLIES, AND GRADUATION REGALIA AND APPAREL.

PROVIDE ASSISTANCE TO PEOPLE IN IMPOVERISHED AREAS TO HELP THEM MEET BASIC HUMAN NEEDS SUCH AS HEALTH CARE, HEALTH EDUCATION, CLEAN WATER, SAFETY, FOOD, AND SHELTER.

THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES FOOD AND HOUSING ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS IN NEED.

When children in sponsorship programs grow up, their sponsorship eventually ends. This is called "aging out." Young adults aging out of sponsorship programs are at great risk. Research shows these young adults, who lack a support system for transitioning to adulthood, are significantly more vulnerable to dangers such as HIV, prostitution, depression, suicide, alcohol and drug abuse, malnutrition, and death. Struggles for food and housing reduce their ability to complete their education. Unemployment impacts their ability to support themselves. We come along side with financial support, local mentoring and accountability, and spiritual guidance as these young adults leave their childhood sponsorships and move into post secondary education, careers, and independent adulthood.
